Program Overview
The South Austin Community Choir (SACC) welcomes adults of all ages who love to sing and support the students at South Austin Academy of Vocal Arts. This non-auditioned choir of 75+ singers of ages 18 and up fosters a supportive community through:
- Ear training, breathing, intonation, and sight reading
- Articulation and performance skills
- Challenging repertoire in English and other languages
- Diverse choral music from various genres and cultures, with a focus on choral art
Singers will prepare for concert performances and competitions, with opportunities for solos.
Performances
Scheduled Performances:
- Winter Concert: Saturday, December 12, 2026, 6:00 PM, Evans Auditorium
- Spring Concert: Saturday, May 15, 2027, 6:00 PM, Evans Auditorium
Special Opportunity: Carnegie Hall Performance
June 2027 — The choir is invited to perform Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
This is an optional trip. Participation is not required — only for those who are interested.
SACC performs at fall and spring concerts (December/May), sometimes alongside South Austin Academy of Vocal Arts students. Every other year, winter concerts feature a chamber orchestra or other instrumental ensembles. SACC always performs unique selections for each concert.
Fees
Registration Fee: $150 non-refundable (due at registration)
Academic Schedule
The Fall 2026 season runs from September 14, 2026 to December 12, 2026.
The Spring 2027 season runs from January 18, 2027 to May 17, 2027.
Attendance Policy
Missing more than 3 rehearsals means stepping back from performing at the concert (but you can still attend rehearsals and the concert to support as a non-performer).
